How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the total orders placed in the period you want to check.
  2. Enter how many orders were dispatched, delivered and returned (RTO). Add pending and cancelled orders if you have them.
  3. Press Calculate to see your delivery rate and return rate.

How it is calculated

Delivery rate = delivered orders / dispatched orders
Return / RTO rate = returned orders / dispatched orders
Pending rate = pending orders / dispatched orders
Cancellation rate = cancelled orders / total orders placed

Worked example

  • 300 orders placed, 260 dispatched, 40 cancelled before dispatch.
  • Of the 260 dispatched: 190 delivered, 55 returned and 15 pending.
  • Delivery rate = 190 / 260 = 73.1%. Return rate = 55 / 260 = 21.2%. Pending rate = 15 / 260 = 5.8%.
  • Cancellation rate = 40 / 300 = 13.3%.

Frequently asked questions

What does RTO mean?

RTO stands for return to origin. It is a parcel that could not be delivered or was refused and is sent back to the seller.

Why are delivery, return and pending rates based on dispatched orders?

These rates describe what happened to parcels that actually went out with the courier, so dispatched orders is the fair base. Cancelled orders never left your warehouse, so they are measured against total orders placed instead.

How can I reduce my COD return rate?

Common steps are confirming every order by phone before dispatch, checking the address and phone number, choosing couriers that perform well in each city, and following up quickly on failed delivery attempts. Results vary by product and market.

What should I do with pending orders?

Pending parcels are not yet delivered or returned, so the rates can still change. Check the rates again once their outcomes are known.

Why does the tool show an error about my numbers?

The counts must be consistent. For example, delivered, returned and pending orders cannot add up to more than dispatched orders, and dispatched plus cancelled cannot be more than total orders.

What does "dispatched but unresolved" mean?

These are dispatched orders you have not marked as delivered, returned or pending. They are shown separately so the rates still add up clearly.

Does the return rate include cancelled orders?

No. Orders cancelled before dispatch are counted only in the cancellation rate.

About the COD Return Rate Calculator

Cash on delivery is how most Pakistanis buy online, and returns are its biggest cost. When a COD order is refused, you pay delivery both ways, the stock is stuck in transit and the ad money that brought the order is lost. This calculator shows your return rate and what returns really cost.

Seeing the cost in rupees, not just a percentage, makes it easier to decide how much to invest in order confirmation, advance payments or better courier choices.

Track it monthly and by product or city to find where returns come from.
