Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate PTA tax?
Pick your phone above or type its value in US dollars. The calculator shows the regulatory duty, sales tax, handset levy and income tax separately for passport and CNIC registration.
What is the difference between PTA tax on passport and CNIC?
CNIC registration also carries income tax, so it costs more than passport registration. Passport registration is only for travellers bringing their own phone from abroad.
How do I pay PTA tax?
Enter your IMEI and CNIC or passport on PTA's DIRBS website. You get a payment slip (PSID) that you pay through a banking app, JazzCash or Easypaisa. The phone is registered within a few hours.
Is this PTA tax exact?
It is an estimate. The exact amount is on the DIRBS payment slip, because FBR sets its own value for each model, which can be lower than the launch price for older models, and the dollar rate changes.
Which law sets the PTA tax?
It is made of customs regulatory duty, the Sales Tax Act, the Income Tax Ordinance and the mobile levy of the Finance Act 2018. The 2026-27 rates follow the Finance Act 2026.
About the PTA Tax Calculator
Phones brought into Pakistan from abroad must be registered with PTA through DIRBS, and customs duty and taxes are charged based on the phone's value and whether you register on a passport or CNIC. This calculator estimates that tax.
Many people buy phones abroad or receive them as gifts and are surprised by the registration cost. Knowing the tax in advance helps decide whether buying abroad is actually cheaper.
Rates and value slabs are set by the government and can change. Use the estimate for planning and check the final amount in the PTA or customs system when you register.
