UTM Builder
Add UTM tracking parameters to any web address so your analytics can show which campaign, ad or post brought each visitor. Enter your link and campaign details, and copy the finished URL.
Your campaign URL
Generating a UTM link does not itself give you analytics. The destination website needs analytics tracking (for example Google Analytics) to record the campaign data. Nothing you enter here is sent to a server.
How to use this tool
- Paste the page address you want to promote.
- Fill in source, medium and campaign name. Add term and content only if you need them.
- Press Build URL. Check the notes if an existing UTM tag was replaced.
- Copy the URL and use it in your ad, email, post or QR code.
- Use the same naming style every time so your reports stay tidy.
What each UTM field means
- utm_source (required): the site or platform that sends the visitor, such as facebook or newsletter.
- utm_medium (required): the marketing channel, such as paid_social, cpc or email.
- utm_campaign (required): the name of the campaign or promotion, such as ramadan_sale.
- utm_term (optional): the keyword for paid search.
- utm_content (optional): which ad or link was clicked when you run several versions.
If your link already has UTM tags, they are replaced so the same tag never appears twice. Other parameters and the part after # are kept.
Example
- Destination: https://example.com/offers?ref=home#deals
- Source facebook, medium paid_social, campaign ramadan_sale, content video_ad_1
- Result: https://example.com/offers?ref=home&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign=ramadan_sale&utm_content=video_ad_1#deals
Frequently asked questions
What is a UTM link?
It is a normal web address with extra tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and others) that tell your analytics tool where a visitor came from.
Does this tool track my clicks?
No. It only builds the link. To see results, the destination website must use an analytics tool that reads UTM tags, such as Google Analytics.
Why are values changed to lowercase?
Analytics reports treat Facebook and facebook as different values. Lowercase with underscores keeps reports consistent. You can turn this off with the checkbox.
What if my link already has UTM tags?
They are replaced by the values you enter, so there are no duplicates. Other parameters in the link are kept as they are.
Are links with a # part supported?
Yes. The fragment is kept at the end of the final URL, after the parameters.
Should I use UTM tags on links inside my own website?
It is better not to. Internal UTM links can overwrite the original source of a visit in your reports.
Can I use spaces and special characters?
Spaces become underscores when tidying is on. Special characters are safely encoded in the URL. Simple lowercase words and underscores are the easiest to read in reports.
About the UTM Link Builder
UTM parameters are tags added to a link that tell Google Analytics where a visitor came from: which platform, campaign and ad. This builder creates tagged links in the correct format.
Without UTMs, traffic from WhatsApp, SMS, QR codes or some ads appears as "direct" in analytics, and you cannot tell which campaign brought sales.
Use consistent names for sources and campaigns so your reports stay clean.
