These results are estimates for planning, based only on the numbers you enter. They are not financial or accounting advice.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose your currency and enter your order counts: placed, dispatched, delivered and returned.
  2. Enter your average selling price, units per order and product cost per unit.
  3. Add courier, packaging, ad spend and other costs, and any recoverable or damaged returned units.
  4. Press Calculate to see net revenue, total cost, profit and profit per delivered order.

How it is calculated

Net revenue = delivered orders x units per order x selling price - discounts / refunds
Product cost = delivered orders x units per order x product cost per unit
Returned-stock loss = damaged units x product cost + extra write-off
Courier = dispatched x forward charge + returned x return charge; packaging = dispatched x packaging cost
Net profit = net revenue - product cost - returned-stock loss - ads - courier - packaging - other expenses
Rates = orders in each status / dispatched orders. Net margin = net profit / net revenue

Worked example

  • 200 orders placed, 170 dispatched: 120 delivered, 35 returned, 15 pending. 25 were cancelled and 5 are not yet dispatched.
  • Net revenue: 120 x PKR 2,500 = PKR 300,000, less PKR 5,000 discounts = PKR 295,000.
  • Product cost of delivered sales: 120 x PKR 1,200 = PKR 144,000.
  • Returned stock: of 35 returned units, 25 are resellable (no cost) and 10 are damaged: 10 x PKR 1,200 = PKR 12,000. The PKR 30,000 of recovered stock is not income and not a cost.
  • Ads: PKR 55,000. Forward courier: 170 x PKR 250 = PKR 42,500. Return courier: 35 x PKR 150 = PKR 5,250. Packaging: 170 x PKR 60 = PKR 10,200. Other: PKR 15,000.
  • Total expenses PKR 283,950, so net profit = PKR 11,050 (3.7% margin, PKR 92.08 per delivered order).

Frequently asked questions

Why is revenue counted only from delivered orders?

In cash on delivery you are paid only when the parcel is delivered. Returned and pending orders earn nothing, but they can still cost you courier charges, packaging and ad spend, which is why COD profit is often lower than order value suggests.

How are returned products treated?

Returned units that you can resell go back to stock and are not treated as a cost. Only damaged or unrecoverable units, plus any extra write-off you enter, are charged as a loss. The value of recovered stock is shown separately and is never added to profit.

Why are courier and packaging charged on dispatched orders?

You usually pay the courier and use packaging for every shipment you send, whether it is delivered or returned. Return charges are then added for returned parcels.

What should I do with pending orders?

By default pending orders earn no revenue yet, so the result shows your profit so far. You can tick the estimate option to project pending orders using your current delivered-to-returned ratio, but that is only an estimate.

Does this calculator include tax?

No. Enter selling prices and costs without tax. Tax rules vary, so please check the treatment with your accountant.

What is a good return rate for COD in Pakistan?

There is no single benchmark. It depends on the product, city, courier and how well you verify orders. Track your own rate by courier and by city over time and work on reducing it.

Is this a replacement for accounting?

No. It is a quick planning estimate based on the numbers you enter. Use your bookkeeping and an accountant for official figures.

About the E-commerce Profit Calculator

Online stores can look busy and still lose money. The e-commerce profit and loss calculator brings together revenue, product costs, delivery, COD returns, payment fees and ad spend to show the real profit or loss for a period.

In Pakistan, cash on delivery returns are the silent profit killer. A store with a 25% return rate pays delivery both ways on those orders and never receives the cash. Including return rates turns a hopeful estimate into a realistic one.

Use it monthly to track your store's health and test what happens if you improve return rates, ad efficiency or pricing.
